Egg Collection - at the back of the coops there is a large drop-down door providing easy access for egg collection. This is a useful feature as it leaves both hands free for egg collecting. The plastic floor also slides out here. The door is secured shut with two toggles.
Easy to Clean - we have carefully designed our coops to be as easy as possible to clean. The bedding can be changed without getting your hands dirty, or making a mess.
The perches are easy to remove and are also made from recycled plastic - they can be scrubbed and soaked without any deterioration. This will help prevent red-mites as they cannot live inside plastic.
The roof lifts off for the monthly clean, giving easy access to the whole coop. The cream roof reflects the sun, keeping the coop cool in the summer months.
The nesting boxes lift out for simple cleaning.
The whole floor simply slides out of the back, with all of the bedding on it.
Every surface of the coop is painted, this is a very effective deterrent for mites, whilst making the surface easier to clean.
Ventilation - Ventilation is vital to get the correct air circulation through the coop. This coop has six ventilation holes allowing fresh air to flow.
Designed and hand crafted in our Surrey based workshop. They are made by hand with precision tools, ensuring outstanding quality.
Quality - This coop is made to an outstanding level of quality and with great attention to detail. We aim to exceed expectations.
To achieve this we make the coops to order over a period of one to two weeks. A CNC Router is used for the nesting boxes and part of the rear door.
Our coops are made almost entirely by hand in our workshop in Surrey. We use high grades of materials and quality fixings to ensure that you get the best quality possible.
Timber - we use 19mm pressure treated softwood shiplap; it has a low knot count and is ideal for external use.
The framing we use for the coops is pressure treated softwood with a planed finish. As you can see in the photo, it has a smooth finish and an attractive grain. This ensures consistency in the quality of the timber. It is 50mm x 25mm framing, ensuring that the coops are solid in their construction and last for many many years.
We use the same high quality, planed timber for the legs. The only difference is its thickness which is 75mm x 38mm, making it very sturdy.
Dimensions - this coop has an internal floor space of 680mm x 1220mm, making it slightly larger than the Dorking. There are two removable perches in each coop which stretch across the width of the coop. There are also two nesting boxes at the back of the coop.
Finishes - We use Cuprinol™ Garden Shades and Heritage shades. We paint our coop inside and out with three layers of paint. This reduces the risk of mites, makes it easier to clean, and prevents rot.
Cuprinol™ Paints give long lasting colour and weatherproof protection. The attractive colours have an opaque matt finish to them and allow the texture of the wood grain to show through. I have selected the colours to complement the natural colours of any garden.
The stained coop uses Cuprinol’s Chestnut Wood Stain. It gets heavily absorbed into the wood, and the waxy finish repels moisture.
Fittings & Fixings - we use stainless steel screws because they are stronger than nails and will last for longer. Coach bolts and wing-nuts are used to assemble the chicken coop - they are very strong and will not corrode. The coop can easily be constructed in under fifteen minutes. No tools are required!
The Environment - Reduce, Re-use, Recycle!
The recycled plastic perches prevent 2.5kg of plastic from going to British landfill.
The packaging is reclaimed from bicycle boxes.
Security - The rear door is secured shut with two of our wooden toggles, and the front door has one toggle located high up at the top of the door.
If the coop is not in a secure environment, or if you don’t have a run attached you have the option of having a bolt on the front door for added peace of mind.
